The Aster is cut from a single hide of vegetable-tanned full-grain leather and built around a reinforced base panel, so it stands on its own whether it is full or nearly empty. The sides are lightly structured rather than stiffened — the bag keeps its line without feeling like a briefcase.
Inside there is one zip pocket against the back wall and two open slip pockets sized for a phone and a card case. The centre divider is removable if you would rather have one large volume. Handles are set at a nine-inch drop, which clears a winter coat without the bag riding up under your arm.
Each Aster is finished by hand, edge-painted in four passes and left to cure for a week before it ships. No two hides take the tannage identically, so slight variation in depth of colour is expected and, we would argue, the point.
